They are known to produce around 5 to 15 liters of milk per day, with some exceptional individuals capable of yielding up to 20 to 25 liters. Their diet mainly consists of green fodder like dry grass and leaves. Gir cow milk is highly valued, often fetching prices ranging from ₹80 to ₹120 per liter, while ghee made from their milk can be sold for as high as ₹2,200 to ₹7,000 per kilogram. Nowadays, Gir cows are not only revered for their religious significance but also for their commercial value, with many industrialists and entrepreneurs keeping them in their factories. Their docile nature makes them easy to rear, and they can live up to 10 to 15 years, giving birth to 8 to 12 calves throughout their lifetime.
